500 Massachusetts Check - BOSTON - Hundreds of thousands of low-income workers in Massachusetts will soon receive a $500 check from the state of Massachusetts.
The Baker administration on Tuesday unveiled a plan to distribute cash payments under the "Covid-19 Key Employee Bonus Program."

Payments worth $250 million will be sent to 500,000 people by the end of March, according to the state.

This is the first round of funding under the $460 million program, which was enacted last December when Gov. Charlie Baker signed a plan to spend $4 billion in American bailout funds.
People are eligible for payments if their earned income is at least $12,750 and their total income brings them below 300% of the federal poverty level.
The federal poverty level is set by the federal government and increases by household or family size depending on the state.
A resident household income of up to $78,600 with a spouse and two dependents or no spouse and three dependents can claim the payment.

Important Note: The state indicates that individuals receiving unemployment benefits in 2020 will not be eligible for the first round of payments.
In addition, employees of the executive branch of the Commonwealth who received or will receive a lump sum payment from the state as an employer are also not eligible.
The state says information on plans to distribute the fund will be released in the future after March.

This $460 million program includes most of those funds, and $40 million is earmarked to fund previous agreements with state employee unions.
"I was very pleased to join the COVID-19 Essential Employee Premium Pay program in December, and our administration has worked quickly to develop program parameters with plans to begin effectively distributing these payments by the end of March," said Governor Baker. "This program supports workers who served our communities, especially at the beginning of the pandemic. »
