Aim Surplus Glock Slide Review - In recent years, I have enjoyed reviewing some interesting retired and law enforcement handguns from AIM Surplus, including the Beretta Model 81 Cheetah, SIG Sauer P226 and the Norinco Type 54. But with the demand for Pandemic-powered defensive pistols, with the supply of surplus guns dwindling in general, injections have dwindled to none recently.
Fortunately, AIM Surplus doesn't limit its inventory to relics and collectibles. The company also offers a range of long gun and handgun components to keep hobbyists busy. A perusal of the online catalog revealed a one-stop shopping array of Glock-compatible aftermarket components, many of which are in-house offerings. Everything needed to build a defense pistol was fiber optic ready, including the optics! So, I contacted the company to arrange the construction of a house. I've covered the process of building an optic-ready Glock pistol and building a pistol from third-party components in other posts, so let's get right into the features of the components and the finished pistol.
Aim Surplus Glock Slide Review
The concealed carry or home defense, compact 9 mm pistol incorporates Gen3 G19 compatible components. This makes the finished pistol a striker-fired semi-automatic that incorporates the Safe-Action type firing system developed by Glock. This system includes an integral trigger blade safety, firing pin safety and drop safety.
Aim Gen3 Glock 19 / 23 Slide Completion Parts Kit
The RMR AIM 2S slide is a square profile slide. It is made of 416 stainless steel and treated with a durable, matte black, diamond-like carbon finish. It features front and rear tilt cock serrations, cut-out RMR size optics, a removable filler plate for that cut, and takes Glock-like sights.
The edges and nose of this slide are beveled, and the outside dimensions are compatible with most G19 type holsters. It ditches the weight reduction or decorative slide clips found on some custom and competition slides in favor of solid slab sides that help keep dust and dirt out of the action. AIM offers other interior slides with cutouts for customers who prefer them. This slide pulls, so it was equipped with the AIM Surplus Gen3 Glock 19/23 slide completion parts kit.
The pistol has a set of AIM Suppressor Glock Height Fiber optic sights. The metallic front sight is serrated and has one of the green, yellow or red optics that sends the sight. The metallic serrated rear sight has a square notch. The reason for installing higher suppression-friendly sights on a pistol that does not have a threaded barrel is so that they can be read with RMR red dot optics. For the smaller defensive 9 mm pistols in the 'micro-nine' size category, the smaller red micro dots of the Shield size are a better fit. For a compact and duty pistol like this one, the taller and wider RMR optic can be an advantage.
The optic evaluated with this pistol was the RMR Justice Tactical Swampfox 1×27 mm sight. Designed for use with everyday carry rifles, shotguns and pistols, hard anodized 7075-T6 aluminum housing, 3-mo.a. red or green dot (red test) and Shake 'N Wake motion sensor lighting. It is powered by a single CR1632 battery secured to the top of the housing by a flip-out aluminum cap. The wider 27 mm lens opens up the picture without making the optic too heavy to carry comfortably. This was my first time working with Swampfox tactical red dot. It was a positive experience and I look forward to repeating it in the future.

The Surplus AIM 4.01" barrel is cold forged from stainless steel and treated with a black nitride finish. It features traditional ground and groove rifling with a 1:10" right hand twist, suitable for jacketless lead shooting. bullets. The Gen3 pattern recoil assembly consists of a single flat wire spring held on a polymer guide rod.
The black polymer frame is made by Gray Ghost Precision. This compact frame takes design cues from the company's GGP Combat Pistol frame, which has a more aggressive texture and improved ergonomics. This is a complete stripped frame with factory serial number. This means it arrives ready to install parts, but must be shipped to an FFL dealer just as a complete firearm.
Gray Ghost chose to keep roughly the same grip dimensions as the G19, front to back and thickness, but straightened the fixed backstrap and added a short beavertail extension to protect against slide bite. The generous trigger guard has a distinctive finger rest, and the grip frame is undercut for improved comfort. The magazine well is beveled for easier reloading, and the bottom of the front strap also has a lip to protect the little finger from being pinched during magazine swaps. The dust cover sports a molded-in, 1.75" long, four-slot Picatinny accessory rail.
The frame was filled using the AIM Surplus Lower Parts Kit for Glock 19/17 Gen1-4 (XAIMGG3LPK). This kit includes a standard take-down lever, extended slide stop and a taller magazine release button, similar to those found on the competition-style model of the G34. This statement is definitely more accessible and comfortable to work with. But it should be noted that it can be dug into the support of some holster designs, and it is slightly more likely to start. Whether or not it suits your needs is a matter of personal preference.
Gen 3 G19. Aim Surplus Slide And Barrel. All Oem Internals. Holosun 407cx2. Olight Pl 2 Valkyrie. Any Suggestions For Improvements?
The trigger group is standard Glock OEM kit fare. The grooved polymer trigger has that striker pistol feel, a bit mushy use with a distinctive trigger reset. But according to the Lyman Products digital trigger gauge, the trigger pull weighs 4 pounds, 8 ounces, which is a full pound lighter than the standard 5.5 pounds. Glock trigger. The build included one Magpul PMAG 15 GL 15-round magazine. These magazines cost and weigh less than factory G19 magazines because they do not have a metallic liner. I've been using them for a while now and haven't had any problems with them yet.
The finished pistol exhibits a first class level of fit and finish. The top half isn't bright, but it's not meant to be. The slide and frame featured a tighter fit than is usually seen with pistols in this class. It was easy to match the Swampfox optics and high sights with a clear and useful sight picture. The Ghost Ghost frame looks sharp and feels good to hold. The grip shape and texture provide a firm feel of purchase without being abrasive to the shooting hand. It's a grip frame configuration that can comfortably cross home defense, concealed carry or competition roles.
At the shooting range, this pistol ticked like a metronome with Glock-like regularity using the G19 Pmag and Glock factory magazines. It fed, fired and fired as expected with bullets ranging from bulk box pellet feeds to premium jacketed hollow points. The main series was formally tested for accuracy at 25 yards using a Federal Premium Syntech practice grade load, along with Remington Black Belt and SIG Sauer Elite Performance V-Corown jacketed log points. The following table shows the performance results.
The Glock Gen3 G19 pistol is one of the most popular pistols ever invented. Thanks to this popularity, and the modularity of the Glock design, aftermarket parts are abundant. AIM Surplus isn't the biggest supplier of G19 components, but what the company offers works well and looks good, to boot. You'll also find components for AR-15s, AK-47s and a variety of handgun models as well as the company's surplus gun catalog.
