Aberdeen Proving Ground Mwr - Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. - APG Fire and Emergency Services and leadership celebrated the completion of expansion and renovation of Fire Station no. 2, Phillips Airfield, on November 19.
Assistant Chief Lorraine Brown served as the event's narrator and provided a historical overview of Phillips Airfield. After the Aberdeen Proving Ground opened in 1917, construction of an airfield began at a cost of more than $1 million in response to the developing technology of air combat. In 1943, the airport was extensively upgraded including the addition of Building 1059. Originally, the building was 1,000 square feet and included two engine rooms and a small living room.
