aim surplus glock barrel review

Aim Surplus Glock Barrel Review - One of the trends that started in 2021 was the increase in ported barrels. We've had places like Monsoon Tactical, Vulcan Machine Work, and Slideworks ENG among a host of other places gain popularity in terms of client referral work. It's always fun to look back and see what trends have been popular over the years. A few years ago the "Roland" Builds were cool things with a comp and good length lights. The Parker Mountain Machine companies were the next big thing. They started appearing on a bunch of firearms platforms. Now Porting seems to be the "recoil management" system that people want to use.

The whole point of porting your barrel and slide is to get excess gas that allows the barrel to go up and skyward. This means it pushes the gun down so it helps reduce the twist and muzzle rise that people can sometimes struggle with. It really helps for follow up shots. This makes your gun more predictable and therefore easier to shoot quickly.

Porting the barrel can be expensive because you have to send the slide and barrel to be machined. You can't just use a normal ported tube in an unconnected slider. The escaping gas has to go somewhere. Your slide will eventually be damaged by the overpressure. So they have to cut out a matching window in the slide. Then they have to be painted or repainted and it takes time to complete the whole process. Our barrels take into account the common placement of the upper window cut in many master slides. You should be able to throw our barrels into most slides and have a system that works perfectly. If your slide is not pre-cut, then we sell our own slides that have the perfect cut-out window for the ports.

Shooting a gun with bores is just a little nicer in the recoil management department. There is less recoil and the ability to stay on target for consecutive shots and rapid fire is a big plus. We can see why carrying your guns has become so popular lately. Plus, in some cases. Just the top window and some burnt out transmission holes look pretty sweet.

We currently offer these barrels in 3 different finishes and will soon have different sizes. They are currently only for the Glock 19. Visit our website and see for yourself. They won't last long as they are currently quite unique to the industry. Grab one and let us know if you can feel the difference with our ported tubes! In recent years, I have enjoyed browsing through interesting retired military and police weapons from AIM Surplus, including the Beretta Model 81 Cheetah, SIG Sauer P226, and Norinco Type 54. But with demand for defensive pistols caused by the pandemic, and decreasing stock of surplus guns in general, the choice has been small lately.

Fortunately, AIM Surplus has not limited its inventory to relics and collectibles. The company also offers a range of long gun and pistol components to keep hobbyists busy. A perusal of the online catalog revealed a collection of Glock compatible components in one place, many of their own offerings. Everything was needed to make an optic-ready defensive handgun, including the optic! So I signed up with a company to arrange homemaking. I've covered the process of building an optic-ready Glock pistol and building the gun from third-party components in other posts, so let's jump right into the features of the components and the finished gun.

This compact, self-propelled 9mm pistol for concealed carry or home defense features Gen3 G19 compatible components. This makes the finished pistol semi-automatic on the trigger which includes the Safe-Action type firing system developed by Glock. This system includes an integrated trigger blade safety, firing pin safety and drop safety.

The AIM 2S RMR slide is a no-nonsense, square profile slide. It is made of 416 stainless steel and treated with a durable, matte black, diamond-like carbon finish. It has front and rear angled serrations, an RMR-sized optic cutout, a removable loading plate for that cutout, and accepts Glock-type sights.

The edges and nose of this slide are chamfered, and the outer dimensions are compatible with most G19 type holsters. It ditches the weight-reducing or decorative slide cutouts found on some custom and competition slides in favor of solid side plates that help keep dust and dirt out. AIM also offers other internal cutout slides for customers who prefer them. This slide is stripped so it is equipped with a set of parts to complete the AIM Surplus Gen3 Glock 19/23 slide.

On top of the rifle is an AIM Surplus Glock Suppressor Height optical sight. The metal front sight is serrated and contains one of the green, yellow, or red fiber optics supplied with the sight. The metal serration back has a square notch. The reason for installing higher suppressor compatible sights on a gun that does not have a threaded barrel is so that they can be witnessed with RMR red dot optics. For smaller 9mm defensive handguns in the 'micro nine' size category, the smaller shield size micro red dots are a better fit. For large and compact pistols like this, a taller and wider RMR optic can be a plus.

The optic evaluated along with this pistol was the Swampfok Tactical Justice RMR 1x27mm scope. Designed for use with rifles, shotguns and everyday carry pistols, the Justice has a hard-coated 7075-T6 anodized aluminum housing, 3-m.o.a. red or green dot (red tested) and Shake 'N Wake motion detection lighting. It is powered by a single CR1632 battery on top of the case with an aluminum screw cap. The wider 27mm lens opens up the field of vision without making the optics too bulky for comfortable wear. This was my first time working with a Swampfok Tactical red dot. It was a positive experience that I look forward to repeating in the future.

The 4.01" AIM Surplus barrel is cold hammer forged from stainless steel and finished with a black nitride finish. It has traditional 1:10" right hand twist clip-and-groove rifling, suitable for shooting jacketed lead bullets. The Gen3 recoil assembly consists of a single flat wire spring caught on a polymer guide.

The black polymer frame is made by Gray Ghost Precision. This compact frame takes its design cues from the company's GGP Combat Pistol frame, which includes a more aggressive grip texture and improved ergonomics. This is a factory complete frame with serial number. This means that it comes ready to install parts, but must be shipped to an FFL dealer just like a complete firearm.

Gray Ghost decided to keep roughly the same grip dimensions, fore-aft and thickness as the G19, but they straightened out the fixed rear strap and added a short beaver tail extension to protect against slide bite. The large trigger guard has a characteristic finger rest and is cut on the grip frame for improved comfort. The magazine well is slotted for easy reloading, and there is a lip on the bottom of the front strap to protect against pinching small fingers during magazine changes. The fabric cover has a built-in 1.75-inch long, four-slot Picatinny rail for accessories.

The frame was filled with the AIM Surplus Lower Parts Kit for Glock 19/17 Gen1-4 (KSAIMGG3LPK). This kit includes a standard takedown lever, extended slide stop, and higher magazine release button, like the one on the competition-style G34. This edition is definitely easier to get and more comfortable to work with. But it should be noted that it can dig into the base of some holster designs and is somewhat more likely to activate. Whether it will suit your needs or not will depend on personal preference.

The kit's trigger group is typical Glock OEM fare. The grooved polymer trigger has that pointed, slightly mushy feel with the characteristic trigger reset. But according to Liman Products' digital trigger gauge, the trigger pull weighs in at 4 lbs., 8 ozs., a full pound lighter than the standard 5.5 lb. Glock trigger. The build included one Magpul PMAG 15 GL of 15 rounds. These magazines cost and weigh less than the factory G19 because they do not have a metal liner. I've been using them for a while now and haven't had any problems with them yet.

The finished rifle exhibits a superior level of fit and finish. The top half isn't flashy, but it's not meant to be. The slide and frame showed a tighter fit than is typically seen in pistols in this class. Swampfox optics and high sights proved easy to attend with a clear, usable image. The Gray Ghost frame looks sharp and feels good to hold. The grip shape and texture provide a solid shopping feel without abrasive pressure
